Biography

Born May 29 ( June 10 ), 1804 [1] in Arzamas , Nizhny Novgorod province , where his father Fyodor Gerasimovich Raevsky was a priest; the elder brother of Mikhail Fedorovich Raevsky . He studied at the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary and at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy (1821-1825), in which he graduated with a master's degree, after which he was appointed professor of mathematics and Jewish language at the Arkhangelsk Theological Seminary .

In 1826 he was transferred to St. Petersburg - protodeacon in the Peter and Paul Cathedral ; November 4 was ordained a priest to the church of the First Cadet Corps . As a law teacher in the cadet corps, he simultaneously taught the Law of God in the House of Parenting of the Poor “ Imperial Philanthropic Society ” (1828–1840), in the Second St. Petersburg Gymnasium (1831–1845) and in the Mikhailovsky Artillery School (1833–1845), consisting of 1846, the main observer for the teaching of this subject in military schools.

At the beginning of 1850, N.F. Raevsky was transferred by the archpriest of the Voskresensky (Smolny monastery) cathedral, and in 1854 he was appointed the cathedral archpriest of the Peter and Paul Cathedral and the rector of the Peter and Paul Theological School. In 1855, he was elected a member of the Conference of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy .

He died on February 4 ( 16 ), 1857 in St. Petersburg and was buried in the Smolensk Orthodox cemetery .

In theological literature, his name appeared very early; as a student, he published his argument: “Consideration of the places cited in the epistle to the Hebrews of the books of the Old Testament” (“Some exercises of sixth year students of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy.” Part III. - P. 287-367); then he published the following works:

  • " On the life and works of the seven most famous fathers of the church " ( St. Petersburg : type. Military-educational institutions, 1847. - 71 pp.);
  • “Several lessons from the history of the ancient Christian church” (St. Petersburg: typ. Military-educational institutions, 1849. - 48 p.);
  • “Speech” and “Word” spoken during the burial of Lieutenant General M.S. Persky and Actual State Counselor E.P. Prazhevsky (St. Petersburg, 1832 and 1841);
  • "Selected words and speeches ..." (St. Petersburg: type. Art. Dep. V.M., 1861. - 196 p.).
