General information
The islands are small, rocky, made of granite rocks, some lack vegetation [1]
There are nautical signs on the northernmost and easternmost islands.
The largest island (650 × 250 m) - Bolshoi Golets is composed of Archean coarse-grained, gray and pinkish-gray plagiogranites.
Since the mid-1920s, extraction of gray granite has been carried out on Bolshoi Golets island to pave the streets and clad buildings, including Leningrad [2] .
In 1931, 481 special migrants from the kulaks were brought to the island for the needs of the Shalsky development of the Karelgranit trust granite.
Barracks, a bath-house, a bakery, a canteen, a club, and a medical assistant station were built [3] . The largest granite monument in Europe to V.I. Lenin in the city of Petrozavodsk was constructed from granite blocks from the Bolshoi Golets island [4] . With the beginning of World War II, development stopped, people were taken out. Further, since 1946, the development was carried out by civilian personnel [5] .
In memory of special immigrants in the northern part of the island, an Orthodox cross with an icon entwined with barbed wire is installed on the foundation of the extreme house [6] .
In 1973, the expedition of Yu. A. Savvateev on the island of B. Golets discovered ancient petroglyphs.
