Colonies of Japan

Colonies of Japan ( Jap. 日本 の 植 民 地 ) - territories that were part of the Japanese Empire and had the legal status of a colony.

Legally, the Japanese colonies belonged to territories annexed after the adoption of the Meiji Constitution. In relation to each of the colonies, the Japanese parliament adopted the Main Decree, which determined the rights and obligations of the ruler of the colony, as well as the principles of its relations with the metropolis . In Japan, colonies were officially called “external territories” ( я . ), As opposed to “internal territories”, which, in addition to the Japanese islands themselves, also included the Kuril Islands and the Ryukyu Islands .
