Biography
Born on September 9, 1941 in Omsk, in the family of employees [1]
In 1964 she graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov in the department of folklore [1] .
In 1966 - 1974 she worked as a junior editor in the publishing house " Art " [1] .
In 1959 - 1960 she was the secretary of the Correspondence Courses of the Central House of Folk Art named after N. Krupskaya [1] .
In 1960 - 1962 - the head of the drama group of the school number 329 [1] .
In 1963 - 1965 - technician of the company pb 2350 [1] .
In 1965 - 1966 he was a literature teacher at school number 101 [1] .
In 1974 - 1989 he was the senior editor of the All-Union Propaganda Bureau of Soviet Music of the Union of Composers of the USSR [1] .
In 1984, at the Institute of Ethnography named after N.N. Miklukho-Maklay of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor B.N. Putilova defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences on the topic “Typology and Functions of the Shamanic Rite ) ”(Specialty 07.00.07 - ethnography ) [2] .
In 1989 - 1992 he was a researcher at the Department of Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far North and Siberia of the Institute of Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR / Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology named after N.N. Miklukho-Maklay of the Russian Academy of Sciences [1] .
In 1992 - 2004, he was a leading research associate at the Institute of Higher Humanitarian Studies of the RSUH [1] .
In 1996 she defended her thesis at the Institute of World Literature named after A. M. Gorky in the form of a scientific report on the totality of published works for the degree of Doctor of Philology on the topic “Folklore-ritual-belief: Experience of structural and semiotic study of texts of oral culture” (specialty 01/10/09 - folklore ) [3] .
Since 2004 - Leading Researcher at the Center for Typology and Semiotics of Folklore of the RSUH .

Scientific Activities
She dedicated the first scientific works to the description structure and character systems in fairy tales. Later he begins the study of the shamanistic traditions of the peoples of Siberia, using the experience gained in the study of oral narrative texts (primarily the “role-playing” model). In 1984 he defended his thesis in Leningrad on the ethnographic specialty.
Novik analyzed the parallelism of the structure of the ritual and the morphological scheme of the folklore narrative and came to the conclusion about the exchange function of the dialogue as the basis of the oral traditional narrative and the ritual “plot”.
In the studies that she generalized for her doctoral dissertation (Moscow, 1996), she came to convincing results in the interpretation of poetics and the genre classification of archaic folklore, semantics and structure of the rite. She proposed a general approach to the study of various forms of archaic culture.
Novik was a member of the editorial board of the series " Studies on Folklore and Mythology of the East " and " Tales and Myths of the Peoples of the East " in the publishing house "Oriental Literature" of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
Scientific editor of the monographs P. G. Bogatyryov , A. Ya. Gurevich , E. M. Meletinsky and B. A. Uspensky , translation into Russian of the collection of articles “Structural Anthropology” by K. Levi-Strauss , as well as myths and tales of the indigenous minorities peoples of Siberia - Kets , Mansi , Khanty .
