γ-melanocyte-stimulating hormone , or γ-melanotropin , γ-melatropin , abbreviated as γ-MSH, is one of the representatives of the family of melanocyte-stimulating hormones .

Gamma-melanocyte-stimulating hormone is a hormone of the middle pituitary gland produced by corticotropic cells of the middle pituitary gland during cleavage of proopiomelanocortin . At the same time, met-enkephalin is formed .

Gamma-melanocyte-stimulating hormone stimulates the growth of skin melanocytes and enhances the production of black pigment melanocytes - melanin . Due to this effect, gamma melanocyte-stimulating hormone enhances skin pigmentation and increases skin resistance to ultraviolet radiation .
