Quotes

To make a critical article about the Almanac group under the same cover as its members is a rather risky venture. As the reader has already seen, the poets presented in the book themselves readily discuss their work. Therefore, the task of the author of these lines is not to supplement or summarize the manifestos placed here, but to try to look at the group as if from the outside, with the eyes of a sympathetic and, to the extent possible, attentive viewer.

Perhaps the first distinct impression of the Almanac is its heterogeneity. Speaking poets do not represent a single generation, not a single direction. The age range of the group from Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov to Denis Novikov exceeds a quarter of a century, and the stylistic one is almost even wider. The dramaturgy of the Almanac performances is largely based on the contrast of the creative looks of the characters, and yet the audience or readers who decide that they are faced with a purely random association of authors, connected only by non-artistic friendship, will be wrong.

The Poetry Theater Almanac proves that poetry is possible even when it is not possible.
