Babil ( Arabic: بابل ) is a governorate in the center of Iraq . Named after Babylon , the ruins of which are located in the province. Area - 6,468 km², population - 1,820,700 people [2] ( 2011 ). The administrative center is the city of Hill . Other major cities are al-Musayyib , Iskandaria , Mahavil , al-Qasim , al-Hasimiyah , al-Madhatiya , Saddat al-Hindiyah .
