Biography

Jose Antonio Rodriguez Vega was born on December 3, 1957 in the city of Santander , Francisco Spain . In adolescence, he beat his seriously ill father, for which he was driven out of the house by his mother. After that, in his own words, he developed misogyny . In 1978, he committed a series of rape of women, for which he was sentenced to 27 years in prison. However, later, for good behavior, the term was reduced to 8 years. Vega was released in mid- 1986 . While he was in prison, his wife divorced him, which only increased the hatred of the future killer to the opposite sex. He married a second time according to one data on the mentally retarded, on the other, a woman suffering from epilepsy. Vega of all kinds mocked his wife and beat her, but for friends and neighbors he kept the appearance of a caring and loving husband.

Jose Vega had a natural talent to attract people to him, so until the moment of arrest, all those around him spoke of the murderer only from the positive side, as a pleasant hard-working person and caring husband. [one]

Murder Series and Arrest

The scheme by which the offender acted was always the same. Thanks to his good-looking appearance and natural charm, Vega got acquainted with the future victim, usually with a single elderly woman, communicated with her until he learned the exact daily routine, habits and other necessary things, then offered to provide any help around the house or during courtyard, and penetrating into the house committed rape and murder of the victim. In all cases, Vega took away any of the things he liked from the crime scene from a bouquet of artificial flowers to the TV .

The first victim of the maniac was 82-year-old Margorita Gonzalez, whom he raped and strangled on August 6, 1987 , besides leaving the crime scene, Vega thrust her dentures into the woman’s throat. The second was killed 80-year-old Carmen Fernandez it happened on September 30, 1987 . In the middle of October of the same year, Vega raped and strangled the 66-year-old Nativeedu Espinoza. On January 21, 1988, Carmen Gonzalez raped and killed. The last victim of the maniac was 66-year-old Julia Fernandez raped and strangled by him on April 21, 1988 .

In addition, Jose Vega committed at least 11 more murders, but the names of the victims, as well as the circumstances of their perpetration, were never disclosed. In addition, at least some of the murders committed by Vega were initially recognized as “death by natural causes”, this is due to the elderly or old age of the victims.

Finally, on May 19, 1988, Jose Antonio Rodriguez Vega was arrested by police on the street of Kodo del Tore in Santander , right during a walk with his 23-year-old acquaintance, Maria Nieves. Vega initially denied any involvement in the killings, but soon the police, during a search of the maniac’s house, found a secret room in which they found things stolen from crime scenes, after which he confessed everything.

Judgment and Death

At the trial, which began in November 1991, José Vega refused all confessions and claimed that all women died of natural causes. In addition, in some cases, Vega denied even the fact of acquaintance with the victim. However, some things of the women killed by him found in the killer’s house proved the opposite. Judicial psychiatrists recognized Vega as suffering from a psychopathic personality disorder, but still capable of being accountable for his actions, therefore José Antonio Rolriguez Vega was eventually found guilty of 16 murders and sentenced to 440 years in prison. [2]

On October 24, 2002, while walking in a prison courtyard, Jose Vega was attacked by two other prisoners who inflicted several wounds on him with sharpeners , from which the offender died on the spot. The next day he was buried in an unmarked grave at the prison cemetery, only two cemetery workers attended the funeral. [3]
