Rudolf Batz ( German: Rudolf Batz ; November 10, 1903 , Bad Langenzalsa , German Empire - February 8, 1961 , Wuppertal , Germany ) - German lawyer , SS Standartenfuhrer [1] , head of Einsatzkwang 2, which was part of Einsatzgruppe A and carried out mass killings in the Baltic states .

Biography
Rudolf Butz was born on November 10, 1903. He graduated from school in Hanover in March 1922. He studied law at the universities of Munich and Gottingen .
May 1, 1933 joined the NSDAP . December 10, 1935 became a member of the SS [2] . Since 1935 he worked as a referent in the Berlin Gestapo . From the beginning of June 1936 until the middle of June 1938 he was deputy head of the Gestapo in Breslau [2] . From mid-July 1939 he was the head of the Gestapo in Linz . In December 1939, he received the post of Gestapo leader in Hanover. From mid-October 1940 to January 1941 he served in the security police in The Hague . From July 1 to November 4, 1941 he commanded Einsatzkommando 2 as part of Einsatzgruppe A. At this post he was involved in the extermination of Jews in the Baltic states. Butz’s adjutant was the SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Gerhard Freitag . In 1942 he was promoted to Obersturmbannführer . In 1943, he was appointed commander of the Security Police and SD in Krakow , and then briefly reinstated the Gestapo chief in Hanover.
After the war, he was hiding under a false name in Germany [2] . In 1960, he was exposed [by whom? ] and arrested. In 1961 he committed suicide while in pre-trial detention [2] .
