History
The company was founded in 1990 in the Taiwanese city of Hsinchu. In 1993, she moved to Hsinchu Science Park, a local technology park . In 1994, she began testing semiconductor wafers [2] .
In 1996, the construction of the Sunplus head office building was completed. Then the company was recognized as the most productive manufacturer of integrated circuits in the entire technology park. And next year she went on an IPO. In 2000, the company's shares were listed on Taiwan , and in 2001 - on the London Stock Exchange [2] . By this time, the company had a very wide line of microcontrollers. Sunplus has been particularly successful in the area of digital camera and DVD player platforms. Sunplus solutions belonged to the low price segment and were in great demand [3] .
The first solutions for the growing market of MP3-players appeared in the company by the beginning of 2003. This solution was the dual-core platform SPCA755 - the DSP core for decoding audio and the ancient Intel 8051 for everything else - given the specifics of the devices, more was not required. Chips from Sunplus, in addition to players, were actively used in budget video cameras [3] .
Platforms of the popular SPCA5x series began to be used in MP4 players. The most popular was the modification SPCA536. This solution is based on the R3000 with a frequency of 96 MHz. USB 2.0 and OTG Full Speed controllers are supported. Distinctive features of the SPCA536 are the ability to compress in JPEG and MPEG4 , as well as an interface for connecting a CCD / CMOS sensor. As a result, in many players on this platform, just to be integrated, a useless digital camera with poor quality shooting [3] .
In 2007, the company established Sunplus Prof-tek Technology in Shenzhen (PRC). In 2008, a subsidiary Sunmedia was established in Chengdu (PRC), and the Sunext division licensed Broadcom Corporation's optical media production technology, which generated $ 38 billion in profit [2] .
In 2009, the company continued to branch. So, the iCatch brand was launched, under which DVRs are produced, and Generalplus is a manufacturer of chips for cameras and media players. Subsequently, Generalplus entered the Taiwan Stock Exchange [4] [2] .
After 2012, the company began to produce ARM processors for Android devices, mainly for portable game consoles, budget tablets and TV sticks [2] .

- S + core ( en: S + core ) - 16- and 32-bit processors that appeared in 2005. Actively used in Chinese game consoles, especially from the company JungleTac [5] [4] . Hewlett-Packard programmable calculators were also based on them.
- SPCA is a line of chips for cameras manufactured today. For example, the SPCA6350 and its modifications are used in a number of low-cost action cameras.
