Biography

Erich Isselhorst was born on February 5, 1906 in the family of a military man Johan Heinrich Isselhorst and his wife Carolina. He attended elementary school in Recklinghausen and Düsseldorf , and subsequently since 1916 - the Hohenzolern Humanities Gymnasium in Dusseldorf, which he graduated in 1925. Since May 1927 he studied law at the universities of Cologne and Munich [2] ; in 1931 he became a doctor of law. On August 1, 1932 he joined the NSDAP (party ticket No. 1,269,847). October 15, 1934 became a member of the SS (No. 267 313). Since April 1935 he was the head of the Gestapo in Erfurt [3] . At the end of 1936 he became head of the Gestapo in Cologne . In this position, he led the deportation of Jews to the concentration camps of Oranienburg and Dachau. From March to June 1938 he served as head of the Gestapo in Klagenfurt . In December 1939 he was transferred to the same position in Munich .

In February 1942 he was seconded to the headquarters of Einsatzgruppe B. From September 9 to October 6, 1942 he headed Einsatzkommand 8, which was part of Einsatzgruppe B. Also from October 1942 to June 1943 he headed Einsatzkomand 1b of Einsatzgruppe A with a location in Krasnogvardeisk [3] . Since October 1943 he was the commander of the Security Police and the SD in Belarus [3] . From January to December 1944 he was an inspector of the security police and SD in Stuttgart and commander of the security police and SD in Alsace. From January to April 1945 he served in the IV department (Gestapo) of the Main Directorate of Imperial Security in Berlin .

After the war

June 12, 1945 was arrested by American troops. Contained in various internment camps. He was eventually transferred to the British camp at Recklinghausen in January 1946. On July 11, 1946, he was sentenced by the British military tribunal to death for the murder of 32 paratroopers. After the sentence, Verl was imprisoned, where he repeatedly testified at the Nuremberg trials . Then it was transferred to France , where on July 23, 1947 he was again sentenced to death . Isselhorst filed a petition for clemency, which was rejected. February 23, 1948 Isselhorst was shot in Strasbourg [4] .
