According to The Greater Boston Convention , it has been known since 1827 [1] and continues to be a popular tourist attraction to date, along with the nearby complex. The restaurant has entrances from two sides - from the Fanel Hall and Clinton Street.

History

The first restaurant in this former warehouse building was opened in 1742. [2] In 1827, it was acquired by John Durgin and Eldridge Park, which turned it into a Boston landmark. By 1840, they invited John Chandler [3] as a partner, and it was the three of them who determined the concept of the restaurant, which has remained virtually unchanged to the present.

During the era of reconstruction , after the death of Dargin and Park, Chandler continued to manage the enterprise, and his family owned it until 1945, when the restaurant was sold to James Hallett , who managed it until 1977. In 1972, the restaurant was bought by the Kelly family [4] and sold to Ark Restaurants in January 2007, although Seana Kelley remained CEO until 2012. The current CEO is Patricia Reyes , who has been with Ark Restaurants since 1999.

At the end of summer 2010, a beer hall opened in the basement bar Durgin-Park, called The Hideout , is distinguished by the fact that it offers beer that is not typical for this tourist place. In January 2013, it was announced that Ark Restaurants had rented a place at Logan Boston Airport, where it would offer passengers soups and sandwiches.

At the end of 2016, weekly stand-up comedy shows called Hideout Comedy began to take place in the basement bar, where local and guest comedians perform.

In 1998, the restaurant was awarded the James Beard Foundation Award (for outstanding achievements in the kitchen) in the Classic America category. [five]

In December 2017, the Boston section of the series on included an episode filmed at Durgin-Park.
