Vorkuta (Soviet) is a military airfield in Komi , 11 kilometers east of the city of Vorkuta .

The length of the runway is one of the largest in the Russian Arctic (3550 m), concrete coating. The runway was built in the 1950s . In the 1980s, the airfield was reconstructed as one of the reserve landing sites for the space plan of the Soviet reusable space transport system Buran .
There is also an airport near the city.
