Construction and start of pharmacy

The first owner of the building at 13 Proskurovskaya was a respected man in Proskurov, a nobleman Ludwig Ivanovich Derevoed. Back in the early 1870s, he received an education that allowed him to become a pharmacist. He decided to open a pharmacy in Proskurov. The pharmacy building was located at the intersection of Aleksandrovskaya (current - Proskurovskaya) street and lane, which led to the Jewish quarters ^[1] . The pharmacy is located in a small one-story house. Ludwig the Tree-eater enjoyed great confidence and was a respected resident of the city. This is confirmed by the fact that, starting in 1881, and for the next 30 years, he held the post of vowel of the City Duma ^[2] . He built a three-story house in the city center in 1890. The pharmacy building towered above the houses, which for the most part were single-story ^[3] .

Pharmacy at the beginning of the 20th century

When the construction work was completed, on the ground floor of the house a fairly modern pharmacy was opened, as for the end of the 19th century. It has long enjoyed great popularity among the population. There were several reasons for this. The new pharmacy contained the latest developments and had all the necessary facilities. Among them was a room in which pharmaceutical work was carried out. In order for the preparations to be stored at the proper low temperature, a “glacier” was created. The laboratory functioned, a basement was built. The Prescription Room was built specifically for visitors. It was spacious and comfortable, and it was in her premises that it was possible to order medicines, as well as purchase them. For high-quality drying of plant components, such as herbs, flowers and various roots, they created a special room. Due to these characteristics, the Ludwig Derevoed pharmacy was considered the best in the city of Proskurov at the end of the 19th century, although this pharmacy was not the only one in the city. At that time, there were ten drug stores and several private pharmacies located in hospitals. The second and third floors were also leased, and they were occupied by ordinary tenants or institutions. In the basement of the House of the Tree-eater there is the “Rhine Wines Cellar” - the store owners rented this room from the owner. The heir to Ludwig Derevoed, approximately in 1909, became his wife, Mikhailina Ignatievna. The pharmacy worked for some time. Its activities were suspended only in the first half of the 20th century, when the House of the Tree-eater was nationalized ^[1] .

The Second Half of the 20th Century - Early 21st Century

For almost a century, this house, which was able to preserve its unique architecture, has changed owners. Changes occurred with the appearance of the building - the fourth floor was completed. Nowadays, indoors at ul. Proskurovskaya 13 is the Khmelnitsky branch of Ukrtelecom ^[4] .

Ludwig Woodman built a modern -style pharmacy. This style was characteristic of the building of Proskurov at the beginning of the 19th century. The premise of the first pharmacy was located on the modern street of the Proskurov underground. In those days, the street quickly enough, after the opening of a pharmacy on its territory, got its official name - Aptekarskaya ^[2] . However, this name did not last long. In 1921 it was renamed to st. Kotovsky. Eighty years later, the name of the street was again changed, and now it bears the name of the street of the Proskurov underground. It was pharmacy that allowed the owner of the house on the street. Proskurovskaya, 13 become one of the wealthiest residents of the city. In the ownership of Ludwig Derevoeda was another house, which was located at the intersection of Kupecheskaya and Aptekarskaya streets. This architectural monument has survived to the present day. In its premises is the Office of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Khmelnitsky City Council. The modern address of the building: Khmelnitsky city, st. Proskurovsky underground 32. The pharmacy of Ludwig Derevoed was not the only building on Proskurovskaya equipped with the latest fashion trends. Ten years earlier, in 1880, the first gastronomic store of Vasily Zhuravlev was opened in the city, which the inhabitants of Proskurov recognized as the best ^[5] . At the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, the pharmacy had a sign with the inscription “Pharmacy of Ludwig Woodan”. At that time there was a requirement for the design of signs, which also applied to other institutions and shops. The appearance of the signs was regulated by city councils. There is evidence of a resolution of the Proskurovsky City Council, dated 1894, which reported on the appropriate location of trade establishments and the mandatory presence of a sign on which the name of the institution and the name, middle name and surname of the person to whom this institution belongs were indicated ^[6] .
