Kalyuzhny, Vladimir Vitalievich

Vladimir Vitalievich Kalyuzhny ( Ukrainian: Volodimir Vitaliyovich Kalyuzhny , born July 5, 1972 , Kiev ) is a Soviet and Ukrainian fencer and saber fencer who played for the national fencing teams of the USSR and Ukraine during the period 1991-2005. Twice bronze medalist of the European championships, winner and medalist of the World Cup, multiple champion of Ukrainian national championships, participant in the three summer Olympic Games. He represented the Armed Forces at competitions. Master of Sports of Ukraine of international class .

Biography

Vladimir Kalyuzhny was born on July 5, 1972 in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR . He was trained under the guidance of coaches M. Goryunov and O. Obolensky. Consisted of CSKA in Kiev.

In 1986, he fulfilled the standard of the USSR master of sports in fencing, winning the youth national championship. In the period 1991-1992 he was marked by victories at several junior and youth championships of the USSR. He was a member of the USSR junior team, so in 1991 he became the bronze medalist of the team championship at the World Universiade in Sheffield .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, starting in 1993, he played for the national team of Ukraine.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , where he took 24th place in the individual classification of saber fencers.

In 2000, he visited the European Championships in Funchal , from where he brought the bronze dignity award won in the team championship. Being among the leaders of the national team of Ukraine, I successfully passed the selection for the Olympic Games in Sydney - here I took 25th place in the individual classification of saber fencers and 6th place in the team classification.

At the 2004 European Championships in Copenhagen, he again won the bronze medal in the team saber. He took part in the Olympic Games in Athens - this time he settled down in the individual competition on line 16, while among the teams he again became the sixth. Soon after the end of this Olympiad in 2005, he decided to end his sports career.

For outstanding sporting achievements he was awarded the honorary title " Master of Sports of Ukraine of International Class " (2000).

He has two higher educations, graduated from the Ukrainian State University of Physical Education and Sports (1996) and the National Agrarian University (2001).
