Biography
Olga Voshchakina was born on January 27, 1961 in Novosibirsk. She began to engage in foil fencing in the sports school DSO " Spartak " with Vladimir Nikiforov. In the early 1980s, she moved to Kazan , where she continued to train under the leadership of Vladimir Zhitlov [1] .
The most significant success was achieved in the mid-1980s. In 1983, she began to be involved in the USSR national team. In 1984, she was preparing to take part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles , but could not speak there, as the political leadership of the USSR decided to boycott the Games by Soviet athletes. At the Friendship-84 competition held in Budapest in July 1984, she became the silver medalist in the team tournament.
In 1985 she won the USSR championship in the individual competition. In 1986, she won the bronze medal in the individual tournament at the World Championships in Sofia and gold in team competitions. In 1988, she participated in the Olympic Games in Seoul .
In 1992, she was a bronze medalist in the CIS Championship ; as a member of the United Team, she performed at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . In 1993 she became the champion of Russia in the individual competition.
After completing her sports career, she moved to the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, where she heads the legal and mobilization work sector [2] . In December 2013, she participated in the Olympic torch relay of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi (2014) [3] .
