Biography
Born October 24, 1959 in Los Alamos, in 1977 she graduated from St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe . In 1981, she received a bachelor of science degree from the University of New Mexico , and in 1987 she received a doctorate in law . She was a member of the New Mexico Bar Association [2] .
In 1991, Governor appointed Luhan Grisham as director of the New Mexico Agency for Senior Citizens, and from then on she headed it, eventually as the Department of Senior Citizens and Human Services, until in 2004 the new Governor Richardson did not entrust her with the management of the New Mexico Department of Health. In 2007, she resigned, deciding to stand for election to the US House of Representatives [3] .
Since 2013, she has invariably represented the 1st New Mexico constituency in the House of Representatives [4] .
On November 6, 2018, Republican candidate won the , becoming the first Latin American Governor to represent the Democratic Party [5] .
Family
Michelle Luhan Grisham is the granddaughter of Eugene Luhan, the first Latin American Supreme Court member of New Mexico, the niece of former US House Secretary of State and Home Secretary George W. Bush Manuel Luhan, and a distant relative of the current US House of Representatives . In 2004, her husband Gregory Alan Grisham, whose marriage lasted 22 years, died from a rupture of aneurysm while jogging. [6]
