The Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the fundamental law of Bangladesh . It was adopted on December 16, 1972. It provides the foundations of the Republic of Bangladesh, such as parliamentary rule , fundamental human rights and freedoms , an independent judiciary , democratic local government and national bureaucracy. Constitution includes references to socialism , Islam , secular democracy, and Bengali [ what? ] . It obliges Bangladesh to “promote international peace and cooperation in accordance with the progressive aspirations of mankind”. There are several conflicting passages in the constitution, such as Article 70.

In accordance with article 111, the constitution of Bangladesh has established a judicial precedent , which makes the judicial system of Bangladesh an integral part of a single common law system. The constitution also provides for judicial oversight .
