- The famous commander of the XVI century, the stolnik . From the family of princes of the Boryatinsky (Baryatinsky) , a secondary branch of the Chernigov princes, many of whose members served the princes of Galicia . In the middle of the XVI century they were ordinary representatives of the upper layer of the provincial nobility and did not receive, as a rule, the appointments recorded in the ranks. Were not very large landowners, in the middle of the XVI century. one of the pr. Boryatinsky was recorded with a salary of 600 quarters , probably the rest of the clan members had lower salaries.

Before serving in the oprichnina, Prince Pyotr Ivanovich was not mentioned in the ranks, although from the 1550s he was a member of the Sovereign’s Court — it was recorded according to Kashira in the Yard Notebook ^[1] .

The last mention in the ranks is the summer of 1599.

He entered the oprichnina not earlier than July 1566, since he had also signed a letter of Zemsky Cathedral (June 28 - July 2, 1566) about the Livonian War as a nobleman of the second article, and no later than December 1569, since he had taken part in Novgorod the campaign of the oprichnina army 1569-1570. In the oprichnina he served with his younger brother Semyon Ivanovich and relatives Mikhail Fedorovich and Fedor Fedorovich Boryatinsky.

In the 70s he served as governor in the Livonian War (1558-1583) and on the coastal service .

He was a governor in Tula (1576), one of the military heads in the defense of Pskov land from the troops of Stefan Batory , the first governor in the Hill (1580-1581) and the builder of a fortress in Surgut (1595) ^[4] .

In 1598, together with his sons Fedor and Yakov, he signed up on a letter of election of Boris Godunov to the kingdom.

The youngest brother, Prince Semyon Ivanovich, was in the summer of 1571, in the spring of 1572, and in September 1672 - January 1573 a bazaar with a horned head of Tsarevich Ivan Ivanovich .

The father of five children who became active participants in the Civil War during the Time of Troubles, and on different sides: Fedor Borets , Yakov , Ivan, Mikhail and Nikita Petrovich, the princes of Boryatinsky. Prince Yakov Petrovich (? -1610) was one of the "direct" heroes of the Time of Troubles, a talented associate of Prince. Mikhail Skopin-Shuisky (1586-1610), and his elder brother Prince Fedor Petrovich became the Tushino boyar and governor of the impostor in Yaroslavl. The Third Brother - Prince Mikhail Petrovich remained on the side of Vasily Shuisky , and during the Moscow "siege sitting" (1608-1610) was in the capital.
