Prism Dove

Prism Dove

The Dove prism , in Soviet sources, sometimes the Dove prism is a reflective prism designed to wrap the image while maintaining the direction of light [1] . Named after its inventor Heinrich Dove . In the main section, the prism is an isosceles trapezoid whose sides are inclined to the base at an angle of 45 ° [2] . Light entering one of the inclined faces is refracted and experiences complete internal reflection from a long base. Reflected, it exits through the second inclined face in the same direction in which it went before it hit the prism. When observed through the Dove prism, the visible image is mirrored inverted relative to the original. In optical instrumentation, the property of a prism is used to rotate the image twice as large as the prism is rotated around an axial beam [3] . The Dove prism is located only in parallel beams, because otherwise the symmetry of the outgoing rays is violated [4] . According to the industrial classification, such a prism is designated AR-0 ° [5] . The image of the Dove prism with an arrow indicating the course of light in it has been used since 1946 as a trademark by the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant [6] .
