Branchiostoma floridae ( Florida Lancelet ) - a species of chordates from the family of lancelet (Branchiostomatidae). Its genome was sequenced. It was revealed that among the chordates, morphologically more primitive tunicates are closer to vertebrates than lancelets [1] .

At the embryonic stage, these lancelets have a larval pharynx with asymmetric gill slits. Their arrangement makes B. floridae asymmetric from left to right [2] .
