“ Shut 'Em Down ” is a song by Onyx, an American hardcore rap group. It was released on February 3, 1998 by Def Jam Recordings and JMJ Records as the second single from Onyx's third album, Shut 'Em Down . The rapper DMX took part in the recording of the song.

Self-produced, the single “Shut 'Em Down” was successful on R&B and rap charts, reaching 61 spots on the Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks and 43 spots on the Hot Rap Singles chart in Billboard, USA.
The official remix that also appeared on Shut 'Em Down , recorded with rappers, Noreaga and Big Pun, was used in the 2005 video game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories .
Background
In an interview with White Label Radio, Fredro Starr told the story of how the band recorded the title track. DMX came to Sound On Sound Studios to record the song “Shut 'Em Down,” accompanied by pit bulls and members of Ruff Ryders , but he flew alone with the dogs to shoot the music video in Los Angeles. Music video
The music video was filmed by director Gregory Dark and was filmed in downtown Los Angeles in December 1997. The premiere of the clip took place on the cable channel The BOX in February 1998. [2] The video can be found on the Onyx DVD : 15 years of video, history and violence of 2008. [3]
Appearance in films, video games
- In 2001, the instrumental of this song was used in the Santa Cruz skateboarding film , Uprising . [four]
- In 2005, a remix for the song “Shut 'Em Down” was used in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories . [five]
Tribute
In 2012, the Mongolian hip-hop group Ice Top recorded a cover version of Onyx's song “Shut 'Em Down Remix” called “Shartai,” and also shot a video for this track. [6]
In 2017, in honor of the 19th anniversary of Onyx's album, Shut 'Em Down , Atlanta rapper SickFlo, who is also a member of the Onyx movement, 100 MAD, released a tribute to the Shut' Em Down video. [7]
