Lima ( Spanish: Provincia de Lima - a province with a special status , part of the Peruvian region of Lima . Its authorities have the authority of both local and regional governments. It covers the territory of the metropolitan area . The area is 2,665 km². Population according to 2017 - 8.57 million people [1] . The population density is 3276.8 people / km². The administrative center is the city of Lima .

Geography
Located in the central part of the region, on the Pacific coast. In the west, it borders the Callao region and is washed by ocean waters. In the north it borders with the province of Uaral , in the northeast - with the province of Kant , in the east - with the province of Huarochiri , in the southeast - with the province of Cañete .
The province is located in a narrow section of Costa , where the Andes spurs are close to the coast. The climate is desert , the vegetation is extremely scarce. The landscape is greatly transformed by man.
Population
The population is 8.5 million people, this is a third of the country's population. Most live in the central, coastal part and border with the Callao region. The population density characteristic of large urban agglomerations is 3277 people / km². In the central part of Breña, the density is 26540 people / km², and in the Punta Negra district in the south - only 54.6%. Density decreases as the distance from the city center increases. Population growth is observed (1.21% per year), but mainly in peripheral areas. In some central regions, the population has declined over the past 10 years (according to the censuses of 2007 and 2017). The gender structure is dominated by women - 51.4%. Compared to other Peruvian regions, the proportion of children under 14 years old is extremely low - 22.1%. The literacy rate is high - 93.4%. In the national composition, mestizos prevail - 70%; the proportion of the Quechua people is 16.8%. There are more Quechua representatives in the peripheral regions, in the center there is a higher proportion of whites. Among believers Catholics prevail [2] .
