The Polish general Frantisek Jimirsky, having sent one regiment to Skrzhinetsky’s reinforcements, and for communication with him Volsky’s detachment (1 battalion, 3 squadrons), with the rest of the troops (8 battalions, 12 squadrons, 28 guns) was located on February 5 ( 17 ), 1831, behind Kalushin ; the front of the position was covered by a stream, the crossings through which, except for one dam, were destroyed; behind the stream a number of forested heights; artillery could shell a dam on a highway; the infantry was at the edge of the forest, the cavalry behind, in reserve [2] .

Russian general Karl Fedorovich Tol , who had been in command of the army reserve and was following the highway to Kalushin, decided to get around a well-fortified position by dividing forces into three columns: the Tsesarevich’s guard was following the highway; two grenadier, ulanskaya and equestrian-jaeger brigades, under the command of Tol himself, were sent to Trebucha, bypassing the left flank of Zhimirsky; the 2nd grenadier team (carabinier) with a team of horse rangers, under the command of General Pyotr Ivanovich Freigang [3] - along the forest road to Shimony and Olshevitsy, bypassing the right flank [2] .

Tol came to Kalushin earlier than the middle column and ordered to occupy the village. The Poles, having met the grenadier with rifle fire from behind the rampart, began to retreat [4] . Jimirsky retreated to , but since he was threatened with a round of Freigang, he began to retreat further and, despite the persecution of Fedor Klementievich Geismar by his troops, managed to reach Novominsk (now Minsk-Mazowiecki ) [2] .
