Biography

Boris Nikolaevich Kutuzov was born on January 18, 1931 in the city of Armavir, Krasnodar Territory. After graduating from the Moscow Mining Institute in 1954 (today the Mining Institute NUST “MISiS” ) and defending his dissertation in 1958, he worked as a junior researcher, senior researcher, associate professor of the departments “Development of ore deposits” and “Rock Physics”.

In 1967 he defended his doctoral dissertation, and in 1971 he was awarded the academic title of professor.

In 1971, B.N. Kutuzov was elected the head of the department “Destruction of rocks by explosion”, which he had successfully organized for his initiative for 25 years, until 1996. Then Professor Kutuzov continued to work as a professor and adviser to the department.

During his work at MGI, he was elected dean of the evening faculty, dean of the physical and technical faculty.

Scientific and educational activities

B.N. Kutuzov was the country's leading scientist in the field of the use of explosive energy in the national economy, one of the creators of a new physical and technical field for the justification and widespread industrial implementation of the rolling-pin method of drilling blast holes in the quarries of the USSR instead of shock-rope, which allowed to increase drilling productivity 5-10 times of work and more than 80% of the drilling volume to perform the proposed method.

With the participation of B. N. Kutuzov, technical specifications for new-generation cone machines SBSh-250-20, SBSh-250-32, SBSh-250-36, Quartzit-270 were developed. On his initiative, unification of the explosives produced was carried out in the direction of reducing the number of grades, reducing the use of trotyl-containing explosives, and using the emulsion type water-containing explosives GLT-20V developed with his participation. Original schemes of short-delayed blasting of wells during mass explosions proposed by B.N. The Kutuzovs allowed to significantly improve the fragmentation of the rock mass and reduce the seismic impact on the surrounding industrial facilities.

B.N. Kutuzov under the leadership of A.F. For the first time in mining, Sukhanova introduced the concept of a rational degree of crushing of rocks by an explosion, which is determined by the minimum cost of mining and processing mineral raw materials. For the first time, he was invited to identify zones of controlled and unregulated crushing during the explosion of fractured massifs. Together with Doctor of Technical Sciences VK. Rubtsov established the basic laws of crushing by the explosion of fractured massifs. With the participation of Ph.D. V.F. Pluzhnikova and A.A. Varenicheva developed a classification of rock masses by explosiveness for blasting with borehole charges of 250 mm in diameter on quarry pits of ledges 12-15 m high.

B. N. Kutuzov received more than 130 copyright certificates and patents for inventions, many of which were actively used in the national economy. So, during 1981 - 1989. at the gold mining quarries of the Aldanzoloto plant, at the Vostochny quarry at Apatit PO, at the underground mine of the Stebnikovsky Potash Plant, 6 copyright certificates were introduced with a total economic effect of 1 million 830 thousand Soviet rubles.

Based on these scientific developments, B. N. Kutuzov created a scientific school to develop new schemes and methods for drilling and blasting wells in the mining industry. Under his leadership, 8 doctoral and 69 master's theses were prepared and defended, the authors of which continue the scientific research begun under the direction of B. N. Kutuzov.

Professor B. N. Kutuzov is the author of more than 250 scientific papers, including 10 textbooks and 10 monographs. The monographs “Safety of blasting operations in industry” and “Designing explosions” were translated into the PRC, and the textbooks “Destruction of rocks by explosion” and “Blasting work” became classic manuals for the training of engineers, technicians, and explosives in Russia and the CIS countries.

On the initiative of B. N. Kutuzov, since 1968, a specialization in training explosive engineers for work in mining enterprises and in research institutes of the mining industry was opened at the Moscow State Institute of Mining. In 1998, with his participation, a new specialty “Explosive Affairs” was opened in the system of higher mining education in Russia.

For more than 30 years B.N. Kutuzov served as a member of the editorial board of the Gorny Zhurnal , was the chairman of the scientific and technical section of the Glavsbestsement association, a member of the scientific and technical council of the USSR Ministry of Construction and Specialty Construction and the Ministry of Engineering and Energy, carried out scientific management at the Moscow State Institute of Scientific Research Laboratories of the USSR Ministry of Ferrous and Nonferrous Metallurgy and the Glavasbestsement association.

Recognition

In 1991, B.N. Kutuzov was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR ”, and in 1996, together with the team of authors, was awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation .

For fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity he was repeatedly awarded with government and departmental awards, in particular, he was awarded the Miner Glory badge of all three degrees.
