Kelly Asbury (born January 15, 1960) is an American animated film director , screenwriter , voice actor, author and illustrator of children's and non-fiction books. Best known for directing such films as Shrek 2 and Gnomeo and Juliet .

Biography
Asbury was born in Beaumont , pc. Texas For two years he studied at Lamar University ( Lamar University ), and then in 1980 entered the California Institute of the Arts ( California Institute of the Arts ), where he studied animation and making films [1] .
Career
Kelly Esbury worked at Walt Disney Animation Studios from 1983 to 1995 and participated in the creation of storyboards for several animated films, including The Little Mermaid , Beauty and the Beast , and Toy Story [2] . In 1993, he was an assistant to the director of the animated musical musical The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton [3] .
In 1995, Asbury began working at DreamWorks , becoming the director of the animated films Spirit: The Soul of the Prairies (2002) and Shrek 2 (2004). These films will later be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Film category . In addition to directing, Asbury voiced some of the characters in “ Second Shrek ” and “ Shrek Third ”.
In 2011, Asbury directed and co-authored the script for the animated film Gnomeo and Juliet . Esbury also gave his voice to the characters in this picture. For work on Gnomeo and Juliet , Asbury was nominated for two Annie awards [4] .
In 2003, Asbury wrote the book Dummy Days, a biography of five ventriloquists of the 20th century. Also, Asbury is the author and illustrator of 12 published books for children [5] . Among them: "Rusty's Red Vacation" , "Bonnie's Blue House" and "Yolanda's Yellow School" [6] .
From mid-2011 to mid-2012, Esbury participated in the creation of storyboards for Disney 's Ralph and Frozen animation projects.
In March 2018, Asbury began directing STX Entertainment 's animated comedy UglyDolls. Dolls with character . " The cartoon is scheduled for release in the United States May 10, 2019 [7] , in Russia - August 22 [8] .

Asbury currently resides in Southern California [1] .
