Meskhadze, Tengiz

Tengiz Meskhadze (born February 8, 1969 , Kutaisi ) is a Soviet and Georgian boxer , representative of the welterweight category. He played for the Georgian boxing team throughout the 1990s, silver medalist of the USSR championship, winner and medalist of tournaments of international importance, participant in the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta . Biography

Tengiz Meskhadze was born on February 8, 1969 in the city of Kutaisi, Georgian SSR .

He achieved his first serious boxing success in the 1991 season, when he visited the USSR Championship in Kazan and brought back the silver dignity, won in the welterweight division - in the decisive final match, he was stopped by Voronezh boxer Vladimir Ereschenko .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it became part of the national team of Georgia. So, in 1992, won the international tournament "Ahmet Dzhemert" in Istanbul.

In 1993, he won the silver medal of Ahmet Dzhemert, performed at the European Championships in Bursa and at the World Championships in Tampere , but could not get into the number of winners at these competitions.

He boxed at the 1996 Strandzhi Memorial in Sofia, losing to the Romanian Marian Simion in the quarter-finals, and at the European Championship in Vejle , where he also reached the quarter-finals. Thanks to a series of successful appearances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the Atlanta Summer Olympics , but already in the opening duel of the category up to 67 kg with a score of 4:10 he was defeated by American Fernando Vargas , the future world champion among professionals, and immediately left the fight for medals.

Subsequently, he remained an active athlete for another Olympic cycle. In 2000, he celebrated his performance at the Multi Nations tournament in Liverpool [1] .

Having completed his sports career, he took up coaching activities. He served as head coach of the Georgian national boxing team [2] .
