Biography

Jiri Bubla began his hockey career at the Litvinov club, making his debut in the Czechoslovak championship at the end of the 1967/68 season. From 1969 to 1971 he played for the Dukla Jihlava army team, with which he won the Czechoslovak League gold medals twice. In 1971, Bubla returned to the Litvinov. After 8 years, he moved to Prague “ Sparta ”, played two seasons for it. Throughout his career in the Czechoslovak League he was the main defender of the Czechoslovak team . As part of the national team, he won the World Cup three times, was the silver medalist of the Olympic Games. In addition to three gold medals, he won 6 more awards at the World Championships (5 silver and 1 bronze). He was a finalist for the 1976 Canada Cup .

In 1981, he went overseas to the NHL club Vancouver Canucks . He played in Vancouver for 5 years, spent only 23 matches in the first season due to an injury, and in the remaining four seasons he was a stable player in the team. He ended his career in 1986. After finishing his career, he became a Vancouver scout.

In 1987, he was arrested during a World Cup in Vienna on charges of drug trafficking. After four years in an Austrian prison, he was released and rehabilitated [1] . He currently lives in Vancouver .
