Biography
The son of a nurse. A Coruña University Hospital Complex Surgeon (CHUAC), member of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery. He works worldwide and runs the thoracic video surgery program at the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. To study minimally invasive video-assisted surgery, he went to the United States and improved the technique of Thomas D'Amico to work in the chest cavity with two cuts before developing the Uniportal VATS technique, which allows you to operate in the chest with a single cut, installing a camera in its upper part. Thus, rehabilitation after surgery is faster, whereas usually the postoperative period after such manipulations is very tough. With this technique, the postoperative period is reduced to two or three days. [1] At first, when developing the technique, he thought that with its help it would only be possible to operate in the lower part of the lungs , but soon saw that it was possible to have access to the entire lung from all sides, developing a new concept of instrumentation. His technique has been adopted by many breast surgeons around the world. [2]
