Bengta Sunesdotter

Bengta Sunesdotter ( Swede. Bengta Sunesdotter ; d. 1261 ) is a Swedish noblewoman , the central figure in one of a series of incidents known as the “Abduction of Virgins from Vreta” when she, like her mother, Princess Helena of Sweden before her, and her daughter after her was abducted from the Vretsky monastery by a man whom she later married. Her abduction was the plot of the folk song "Junker Lars, the bride kidnapper" (" Swede. Junker Lars klosterrov ").

Biography

Bengta was the daughter of Princess Helena of Sweden and Sune Volkesson and, thus, the sister of Queen Katarina Sunesdotter . Bengta was placed in the monastery of Vreta for her education. In 1244, she was abducted by Lars Petersson, the Justiciary of Östergötland , with whom she went to Norway. According to one theory, Lars was the grandson of the king from the House of Eriks and wanted to combine this dynasty with the Bengta Sverker dynasty. He could also have claims to the throne. For several years, Bengta lived with Lars in Norway.

After Lars' death, she returned to Sweden and married the high-ranking nobleman , Lord Vibyu.

Children

In a marriage with Svantepolk Knutsson, several daughters were born to Bengta, among them Ingrid, and the son Knut, who died childless:

  • Ingeborg (born around 1250, d. After 1341), was married to and Thune Anunsson (Wingetten).
  • Katarina (d. 1329), went to Vretsky monastery around 1266, the abbess there from 1289 to 1322 or 1323.
  • Ingrid (d. After 1350) was married from 1288 to the knight (d. Before 1310).
  • Knut (d. Before 1310), known from 1296-1301, squire .
  • Ingerd, was married to Brunolf Bengtsson and Mats Turneson (Hyorthorn).
