Kartosia, Alexander Guramovich

Born on January 8, 1959 in Tbilisi.

In 1981 he graduated from the Faculty of Western European Languages ​​and Literature of Tbilisi State University and worked as a translator at the Tbilisi Polytechnic Institute .

From 1982 to 1985, he was an assistant to the rector of the University of Tbilisi, and then until 1988 - a research associate in the Department of General Linguistics of Tbilisi State University. In 1986 he defended his thesis. Since 1989, he was the head of the Department of German Philology at Tbilisi University.

In 1997, he was appointed director of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia ^[1] .

From August 6, 1998 to February 14, 2004 he was the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia ^[2] . On February 4, 2004, the Georgian Interior Minister was charged with laundering the $ 60 million received by the public education system. He denied his guilt ^[3] .

Since 2004, lives in Berlin , where he collaborates with literary houses and holds seminars on translation theory. He is a teacher at the Department of Social Linguistics of the European University of Viadrina .
