Biography

Andrei Vladimirovich was born and raised in Moscow. In 1983 he graduated with honors from the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University. After graduation, he entered graduate school (1984) and from the same year began teaching at the Faculty of Chemistry (at that time the idea of expanding education was being developed, they wanted to make it more individual, so a group of 20 students should have 3 teachers each).

Since 1987 - a junior researcher at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry. In 1990 A.V. defended his thesis. Since that year, he has been working in the laboratory of directional inorganic synthesis. Since 1994 - Associate Professor of the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University.

In 2002 he defended his doctoral dissertation, and a year later became a professor in the department of inorganic chemistry. Since 2012, head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Moscow State University.

Research

As a graduate student, Andrei Vladimirovich worked in the field of kinetics and mass transfer [1] . Under the guidance of Professor B. A. Popovkin, he defended his thesis on the topic “Controlled synthesis of solid solutions based on SbSI from steam” [2] .

After the discovery of high-temperature superconductors in 1986, B. A. Popovkin entrusted A. V. Shevelkov with other topics related to the synthesis and structural study of various types of inorganic compounds.

Since 1990, all studies have been focused on identifying the fundamental relationships between the composition, structure, and properties of various non-oxide inorganic compounds: intermetallic compounds , Zintl phases, cluster compounds [3] [4] [5] , and more recently, synthetic analogues of some minerals that have thermoelectric activity.

In 2002, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Pnictide halides of metals of the 12th and 14th groups: new inorganic supramolecular ensembles” [6] .

Teaching activities

Andrei Vladimirovich began teaching as a graduate student (1984). In 1989-2008 - conducted practical work in inorganic chemistry, since 1995, he lectured on modern inorganic chemistry (special course for senior students), then (since 2002) - on inorganic chemistry for first-year students of the Faculty of Chemistry.

Since 2008, he has been giving a course of lectures on supramolecular chemistry for students of the Faculty of Materials Science; since 2010, he has been giving lectures on general chemistry for students of the Faculty of Physics.

Since 2013, he has been teaching a lecture course “Functional Inorganic Materials of the 21st Century” (inter-faculty course).

Under his leadership, about a dozen term papers, 17 dissertations and 11 master's theses were defended.

Together with colleagues, he is the author of 25 training courses.
