Hositashvili, Jaba

Jaba Hositashvili was born on July 23, 1990 in the city of Akhalkalaki in the Samtskhe-Javakheti Territory of the Georgian SSR .

Amateur career

He made his debut on the international stage in 2006 at the European Championship among schoolchildren in Ukrainian Nikolaev , having won all the fights and becoming the champion in the weight category up to 65 kg ^[1] . A year later, at the World Cadet Championships in Baku, he lost in the 1/8 finals. Two years later, at the Youth European Championship in Szczecin, he won the bronze medal in the welterweight division.

In 2011, he entered the main squad of the Georgian national team and visited the European Championships in Ankara , from where he brought the bronze dignity prize, won in middle weight - at the semifinal stage he was stopped by the Turkish Adem Kylichchi . He also boxed at the World Championships in Baku , where he was defeated by the German Stefan Hertel . In addition, he received bronze at the international tournament "The Great Silk Road". He became the silver medalist of the Nurmagambetov Memorial in Alma-Ata, losing in the decisive final match to the representative of Ukraine Yevgeny Khitrov .

Starting from the 2011/12 season, he regularly participated in World Series of Boxing league matches, representing the Turkish team from Istanbul.

He tried to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , but was defeated in the European Olympic qualification in Trabzon already in the quarterfinals of the category up to 75 kg from the Englishman Anthony Ogogo .

In 2013, he played at the European Championships in Minsk and at the Universiade in Kazan , but could not get into the number of winners in these competitions. He did not achieve success at the world championship in Alma-Ata , losing in the first match to the Egyptian Hosam Bakr Abdin .

Since 2014, Hositashvili represented the Azerbaijani team WSB Baku Lights and in other competitions he represented the Azerbaijani team. So, in the classification of the light heavyweight category, he won the tournament "The Great Silk Road" in Baku, in particular in the finals he defeated the Kazakh Dauren Eleusinov .

In 2015, he participated in the Azerbaijani boxing championship , but stopped far from the prize positions ^[2] .

Professional career

Having completed his performances in amateur boxing, Jaba Hositashvili decided to become a professional and in April 2016 he successfully made his debut in the pro ring. Living and boxing in the United States, Golden Boy Promotions is his promoter.

In September 2018, he performed on the undercard of the boxing evening “ Saul Alvarez - Gennady Golovkin II ”, winning points by the undefeated American Lawrence King (4-0) ^[3] .
