Tomari (Okinawa)

Tomari pier Naha port

Tomari ( Jap. - ) is a district of the city of Naha located on Okinawa , where the port terminal of the same name is located. The terminal is used for ferries and passenger ships that connect Okinawa with neighboring islands.

Before the founding of the modern city of Naha, Tomari had the status of (type of municipality). Tomari served as the main port for Ryukyu ships traveling between the Ryukyu Islands, in which they could moor and receive or deliver cargo. The tribute from Amami-Oshima came here too [1] .

Okinawan karate style, Tomari-te, also appeared here. and Teki Motobu were engaged in it.
