Biography

Born on April 6, 1941 in Baku.

In 1966, he graduated from the North Ossetian State Medical Institute (specialty is a medical doctor), after which he worked in the Azerbaijan SSR.

In 1971 he moved to Moscow and until 1980 worked as a junior, and then a senior researcher at the All-Russian Research Institute of the Ministry of Health of the USSR.

Since 1980 - Associate Professor of the Department of Pathophysiology TSOLIUV (now it is RMAPO ), from 1986 to the present - Head of the Department of General Pathology and Pathophysiology.

From 2001 to 2016 - Director of the Research Institute of General Pathology and Pathophysiology , from March 2016 - Scientific Director of the Institute.

In 1993 - was elected a corresponding member of RAMS.

In 1999 - was elected an academician of the RAMS.

In 2013, he became an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (as part of the accession of the RAMS and RAAS to the RAS ).

Scientific activity

Specialist in the pathophysiology of blood coagulation and thrombosis.

He was engaged in the development of fundamental mechanisms for the transformation of normal cells into tumor cells, and proved the significant pathogenetic role of biosynthesis of tetraperrol compounds in the developmental genesis of rabbit Brown-Pierce adenocarcinoma. Later he developed and patented an original experimental model of immunological pulmonary thrombosis, described all the stages and features of the formation of a thrombotic process in the vessels of the pulmonary circulation, revealed previously unknown molecular and cellular mechanisms for the development of arterial and venous thromboses, proposed a classification of non-atheromatous arterial thrombosis, participated in the creation of the first Russian thrombolytic drug of fungal origin (terrilitin).

He justified and led the development of a new scientific field in the country - nanopathology, which studies violations of the structural and functional properties, behavior and interaction of nanoparticles of various nature in humans and animals.

In recent years, on his initiative and active support and participation in the Research Institute of General Pathology and Pathophysiology, fundamental studies have been launched to study the intracellular regeneration of the brain after its ischemic injuries. These works culminated in the discovery of a new biological phenomenon - neuron-specific reprogramming of oligodendrocytes and were included in the prestigious foreign publication Global Medical Discovery (2013).

The creator of the school of molecular and cellular pathophysiologists, which trained 10 doctors and 24 candidates of sciences. Two of his students were elected members of the RAS.

Author and co-author of more than 460 scientific papers, 14 inventions and patents, 270 journal articles (50 in English editions), 5 monographs.

Scientific and organizational activities

  • editor-in-chief of the journal Pathogenesis;
  • member of the editorial boards of 5 scientific journals;
  • President of the Russian Scientific Society of Pathophysiologists;
  • Chairman of the Scientific Council on General Pathology and Pathophysiology.

Rewards

  • The RSFSR State Prize in the field of science and technology (as part of a group, for 1991) - for research in the field of pathophysiology of thrombus formation [2]
