Biography
Born September 5, 1569 in Neuenstein . The eldest son of Count Wolfgang zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1546-1610), and his wife, Countess Magdalena von Nassau-Dillenburg (1547-1633), the youngest daughter of Count Wilhelm I of Nassau-Dillenburg (1487-1559) and his second wife, Countess Julian von Stolberg (1506-1580). My father is the grandson of Count Ludwig Casimir von Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Neuenstein (1517-1568) and Countess Anna von Solms-Laubach-Lich (1522-1594).
In 1586, 17-year-old George Friedrich entered the University of Geneva , where he studied until 1588 . He was probably the last student of Professor Francois Othman . He then studied in France and Italy, where he attended the universities of Siena and Padua.
After graduation, George Friedrich from 1591 fought on the side of the king of France, Henry IV, against the Catholic League . In the war against the Ottoman Empire in 1595, he received the rank of colonel . In 1605, he, with the rank of imperial wahmister general, participated in the suppression of the uprising in Hungary.
In 1607, Count George Friedrich married Eve von Waldstein , through marriage with whom he acquired the estate of Kraliki in Eastern Bohemia. Thanks to this marriage, he became part of the Czech nobility and, therefore, took part in the uprising against the supreme power of the Holy Roman Emperor and the King of the Czech Republic Ferdinand II of Habsburg . In the rank of lieutenant general, he commanded the cavalry in the battle against the imperial army on White Mountain ( November 8, 1620 ). In 1621, Emperor Ferdinand II of Habsburg declared Frederick V Pfalzsky and other leaders of the rebels, including Count George Friedrich Hohenlohe-Noeinstein-Wikersheim, persons outlawed.
On November 22, 1621, Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Kotensky accepted Count George Friedrich as a member of the literary Fruitful Society .
In 1632, Count George Friedrich was appointed Swedish staff halter in the Swabian district . This provoked the wrath of the Holy Roman Emperor, who ordered the confiscation of Weikersheim County. Only after the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Wikersheim was returned to the Hohenlohe family.
In 1637, Georg Friedrich received the pardon of the emperor, and in 1639 he settled in Langenburg , refusing to participate in political life. There, Count Georg Friedrich was engaged in literature . He wrote mainly prayers and verses.
