Kim Gukhyan (born April 20, 1994 ) is a North Korean weightlifter , medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games, medalist of the 2017 World Cup, Asian champion in 2016. Winner of the 2017 Summer Universiade and the 2018 Asian Games.

Career
Kim Gukhyan was born in Changyeong County, Hwanghe Namdo Province ( DPRK ). She was orphaned as a teenager, and was brought up in a public institution. Weightlifting trainer Kim Myung-ho noticed her at the Pyongyang Hospital when she was helping her mother get medical help.
She was awarded the Kim Il Sung youth honorary prize, the highest award of the DPR Korean youth, and received the title of Honored Athlete during her career.
At the 2015 Asian Championships, in weight over 75 kg, she was in second place with a total result of 296 kg.
At the 2015 World Championships in Houston, she won a bronze medal by raising the total amount on the bar to 298 kg.
The 2016 Olympic year began for the Korean athlete successfully. She won the Asian Championships (total amount - 291 kg.). And took part in the Olympic Games in Brazil. There, in the weight category over 75 kg, she performed successfully, becoming the silver medalist of the Olympics (total amount - 306 kg).
At the 29th Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei, the Korean athlete won in the weight category over 75 kg, with a total weight of 299 kg on the bar.
At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta in the weight category over 75 kg, Kim took first place and became the champion of the prestigious competition.
At the beginning of November 2018 at the World Championships in Ashgabat, a North Korean athlete, in the weight category over 87 kg., Won the small bronze medal in the snatch, taking the weight of 130 kg. As a result, she took 4th place.
