Biography
Born October 6, 1867 in Louisville, Kentucky, in the family of Rev. George Claude Lorimer Belle Lorimer (née Burford ).
George studied at Moseley High School , Colby College and Yale . [1] He worked as a journalist and in 1899 became the chief editor of the Saturday Evening Post , published in Philadelphia , PA. He remained in this post until the end of 1936, about a year before his death. George Lorimer also served as vice president, president, and chairman of the board of directors of the journal Curtis Publishing Company .
In the early 1900s, Lorimer published several books, including Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son , Old Gorgon Graham, and The False Gods .
He died of throat cancer on October 22, 1937. He was buried in Philadelphia at the Laurel Hill Cemetery cemetery . [2]
He was married since 1892 to Alma Viola Ennis Lorimer (1870–1941) [3] , they had children: Belle Burford Lorimer (1898–1908), Graeme Lorimer (1903–1983), George Burford Lorimer (1908–1952) and Georgia Bell Lorimer (1909–1992).
George Lorimer owned the estate in Wyncote , Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. Most of the estate buildings are currently used as the Ancillae Assumpta Academy campus. Part of Lorimer Park in the city of Abington in the same state with an area of 230 acres (0.93 km²) has become a public park on the will of the Lorimer family.
