Biography
Born June 14, 1546 in Waldenburg . The third son of Count Ludwig Casimir von Hohenlohe-Noenstein (1517-1568) and Anna von Solms-Laubach-Lich (1522-1594), daughter of Count Otto I von Solms-Laubach. Brothers - Albrecht von Hohenlohe-Waldenburg (1543-1575), Philip Ernst von Hohenlohe-Neuenstein (1550-1606) and Friedrich von Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1553-1590).
Since 1558, he attended the University of Tübingen for two years, then studied in Paris for two years, and later served in the imperial service in Vienna , where he participated in a campaign against the Ottoman Turks. After the death of his father in 1568, Wolfgang ruled Langenburg with one of his brothers and his mother, and since 1574 he ruled alone.
In 1586, the brothers made a division of their father's possessions (Hohenlohe- Neuenstein , Hohenlohe- Langenburg and Hohenlohe- Wikersheim ). Wolfgang gained possession of Weikersheim . Here he rebuilt the old castle on the water at the Renaissance palace.
Count Wolfgang was involved in horse breeding and medicine, he loved music, was fond of chemistry and alchemy in his laboratory in a two-story palace. His library had 500 volumes of books. During the Thirty Years War, the Hohenlohe family fled to Ordruf .
Marriage and children
On January 27, 1567, in Dillenburg, Count Wolfgang of Hohenlohe-Weikersheim married Countess Magdalen von Nassau-Dillenburg (December 15, 1547 - May 16, 1633), the sister of Wilhelm of Orange , the youngest daughter of Count Wilhelm the “Rich” Nassau-Dillenburg (1487–59) Juliana von Stolberg-Wernigerode (1506-1580).
