Village History and Traditions

The village of Khazra was formed as a result of the unification of small clan settlements [8] . It was named so in connection with the burial here of the Hazrat Sheikh Junayd in the XV century, which was considered a saint [4] . So, in one legend about the formation of the village it is said that it is based on the place of death of the Ardebil Sheikh Junayd, grandfather of Shah Ismail I. According to one version, in 1456, Sheikh Junayd undertook a series of campaigns in this territory with the aim of converting the local population to the bosom of Shiism . He managed to cross Samur and invade the borders of Southern Dagestan, but subsequently he was expelled from there. Leaving the borders of Dagestan, the remnants of the Persian troops on the bank of Samur (near the village of Khazra) again ran into detachments of highland Lezgins. In this battle, Junide’s squad was defeated and his leader killed. The remaining troops buried Junide in the village of Khazra and hastily retired to Persia [9] . According to another version, Sheikh Junide died in 1460 in a battle with the troops of the Shirvanshah Khalil-Ulla I , after which he was buried here. After his remains were reburied in Ardabil at the behest of Shah Tahmasp I , a mausoleum was erected here. On kitaba , located on the facade of the monument, the date is 1544 [10] .

Another legend about the formation of the village says that the place where the village is currently located was once a resting place for conquerors who attacked mountain villages. From here came the other name of the village - Yargun, which in translation from Lezgi means “fatigue”, “overwork” (from the root “yurgun”). When the inhabitants of the alpine villages found out that their enemies were having a halt here, they suddenly attacked them during their vacation. Soon, soldiers from the villages of Kara-Kure and Mikrakh firmly settled here, having founded the village of Yargun. They strengthened it by building large ramparts like natural ones. Later, residents from other mountain villages of the Shahdag valley began to arrive here, among which there were many Shiites from Miskindzha , who later became Sunnis , and therefore there is a tukhum in the village, called the Shiite - “Shigyar” [2] .

Abbaskuli-aga Bakikhanov reported that the residents of the Khazra village of the former Khazarat were transferred by Hagan Tahmasob I from Persia and settled near the tomb of great-grandfather Sheikh Junayd, which is why one of the village’s quarters is Shiite. The residents of the village of Khazra also have a number of traditions, which state that their ancestors once descended from the high mountains of Lezghin territory of Dagestan [2] .

Population and life

According to 2009 data, 3469 people lived in the village of Khazra, of which 1738 were men, 1731 were women [11] .

The village of Khazra is Lezgi [8] . It is divided into 13 quarters: Tegvah, Caravanserai, Landfill, Plains, Lower Quarter, Upper Quarter, Yankees, Zinkilas, Plains, Shiites, Kelbi Descendants, Descendants of Muhammedali, Mullah [12] .

The houses of the villagers were from river stones, adobe brick was made on the spot, the tree was mainly imported. Preparation for the construction began in the fall, when the forest was imported [13] .

Despite the fact that a parental ban or coercion to marry lost their former force, in the village of Khazra and a number of other villages of the Gusar district back in the late 80s. young people requested parental consent for marriage [5] .
