Biography
Born on November 14 ( November 27 ), 1915 in Kerki (now Lebap Province , Turkmenistan ). Armenian by nationality.
- Since 1930, he worked as a cotton factory engineer, foreman of the silk factory in Chardzhou .
- In 1935 - 1940 he was a student at MIHM .
- Since 1940 - engineer, workshop head, chief mechanic, director of the Chirchik Electrochemical Plant ( UzSSR ). Member of the CPSU (b) since 1942 .
- Since 1953 - head of the Main Directorate of Nitrogen Industry of the USSR Ministry of Chemical Industry
- Since June 1958 - Deputy Chairman, and since 1961 - First Deputy Chairman of the USSR State Committee on Chemistry.
- Since May 11, 1963 - Chairman of the State Committee for Chemical and Oil Engineering under the USSR State Planning Commission - Minister of the USSR.
- Since 1964 - Chairman of the State Committee of the Chemical Industry under the State Planning Commission of the USSR - Minister of the USSR.
- From October 2, 1965 to November 4, 1980 - Minister of the Chemical Industry of the USSR .
- February 16, 1979 - XXXV Mendeleev reader .
- Since November 4, 1980 - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR .
Member of the Central Committee of the CPSU since 1971, candidate for member of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1966-1971), deputy of the Council of Nationalities of the USSR Armed Forces of 7-11 convocations (1966-1984) from the Turkmen SSR .
He died on September 5, 1984 . An urn with ashes was buried in the Kremlin wall on Red Square in Moscow. Kostandov became the penultimate buried in the Kremlin wall (in front of D.F. Ustinov ).
On November 1, 2007, the “L.A. Kostandov Foundation” was established. Prizes and scholarships of the Fund are awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of chemical engineering and processes and apparatuses of chemical technology .

Memorials and Monuments
In 2002 [2] a memorial sign was opened on the building of the main building of the Moscow State Institute of Economics and Politics L.I. Kostandov, sculptor Alexander Ryabichev , architect Evgeny Amaspyur, and an audience (No. L-207) named after him was opened. Currently, this audience is defending Ph.D. and diploma theses, as well as meetings of the Academic Council of the University.
