Biography
Marcelo Matos, a graduate of the Mirasol club, played mainly in the A2 Series of the League Paulista in 1999. In 1999 and 2000, the team stopped a step away from Serie A, but missed a ticket to the top division in recent matches. In 2002, Matos played in Japan - in the teams "Tokyo" and "Oita Trinita". After returning to Brazil, he played for Sao Caetano in the Brazilian Serie A. In 2004, he helped the team win the Sao Paulo State Championship for the first time in history [1] .
In 2005, Corinthians , which became the richest club in South America, began to acquire Argentine and Brazilian players to strengthen the composition [2] . Marcelo Matos was acquired from San Caetano for $ 1.2 million [3] . In a tough standoff with Internacional , the Corinthians star team managed to win the 2005 Brazilian title. Matos became one of the team leaders, playing 35 matches (out of 42) and scoring six goals in the tournament [4] .
In 2007, Marcelo Matos moved to the Greek Panathinaikos . With this team, he participated in the matches of the preliminary stage of the Champions League . In 2009-2010, he again played for Corinthians on loan, and in 2009 he helped the Musketeers win the state championship.
From 2010 to 2015, Matos was in favor of Botafogo (on June 30, 2011, on loan) [5] . For three years he was one of the key players of the “lonely star”. The season of 2013 was especially successful when Botafogo fought for the championship for a long time with Cruzeiro , but eventually finished fourth and earned a ticket to the Copa Libertadores [6] . The following season, the team played extremely unstable, and Matos rarely got to the base, and as a result, Botafogo flew to Serie B. In 2015, the midfielder spent six months in Botafogo, and finished the season in the Salvador Vitoria in the same division . Both teams ended up in the top four (“Botafogo” in the first place) and regained their place in Serie A [7] .
In 2016, Marcelo Matos broke the contract with Vitoria for family reasons [1] and moved to another camp from Rio de Janeiro , who failed the previous season, Vasco da Gama . At the beginning of the year, he became the winner of the League of Carioca, and then began to help the team in returning to Serie A. Matos managed to play 16 matches in Serie B for the “admirals” and score one ball. In September, at the training session of Vasco da Gama, on the eve of the Brazilian Cup match against Santos , Marcelo, giving the transmission to his partner Georges Enrique , felt a pain in his leg. Examination revealed damage to the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee . It was originally planned that Matos would be able to return to the field in six months, but after two operations it became obvious that the return was postponed. Club president Euriko Miranda still extended the contract football. In 2018, two more operations were performed on Matos’s knee to remove fluid and eliminate pain [8] .
November 7, 2018, responding to the ironic statement of the fan in the social network, Marcelo Matos said that he would return to the field in 2019 [9] . His contract with Vasco ends in December 2018 [8] . His contract with Vasco ended in December 2018 [8] .
At the end of February 2019, Marcelo Matos again began training with his Vasco da Game partners [10] . March 28, 2019, after 2.5 years, Marcelo Matos again played for Vasco da Gamu - he came on as a substitute in the second added minute of the state championship match against Bangu , in which the "admirals" won 1: 0 [11 ] .
