Alla Aleksandrovna Rusakova (nee Elyashevich ; January 19, 1923 - July 30, 2013 ) - Soviet and Russian art critic, author of several books on the history of Russian and Soviet art, doctor of art history [1] [2] [3] .

Biography

Alla Elyashevich was born on January 19, 1923 [2] in the family of the Russian politician and economist Alexander Elyashevich [4] . In 1940 she entered the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (LIZSA, now the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin ), which she graduated with honors in 1948, receiving an art degree. The theme of the thesis is “Portraits of M. V. Nesterov ” [2] . After graduation, she worked as a research fellow at the State Russian Museum , and was also the head of the graphics department and chief curator of the Scientific Research Museum of the USSR Academy of Arts [3] .

In 1952, she married art critic Yuri Rusakov, the son of artists Tatyana Kupervasser and Alexander Rusakov . In February 1967, at a meeting of the Academic Council of Leningrad State University, she defended her thesis based on a monograph on the work of the artist V. E. Borisov-Musatov [4] . Since 1968, mainly engaged in scientific and literary activities [3] .

In 1980 [4] Alla Rusakova defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic “Pavel Kuznetsov” (based on the eponymous monograph on the work of the artist P. V. Kuznetsov ) and received a doctorate in art history [5] . She was a member of the St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) Union of Artists (art criticism section) since 1956 [6] .

Alla Rusakova wrote a number of monographs and articles on the history of Russian and Soviet art of the 19th-20th centuries, as well as on the works of artists Viktor Borisov-Musatov , Zinaida Serebryakova , Mikhail Nesterov , Pavel Kuznetsov and others [7] . She worked on the problems of pictorial symbolism [3] .

Died July 30, 2013 [1] .
