Standard Grade Issues

The first issue of standard stamps (1923-1927)

Since February 1926, the issue of the first issue of standard stamps of the USSR was continued. The drawing on the stamps of the first standard issue of the USSR repeated the images on the stamps of the fourth standard issue of the RSFSR 1922-1923. A distinctive feature of the postage stamps of the "gold" standard: they were sold by mail at the face value set by the quotation commission of the Moscow Commodity Exchange in accordance with the exchange rate of the day of the gold ruble. Since the conversion of postal tariffs into banknotes was carried out at the chervonets exchange rate, the postal tariffs expressed in the common signs changed accordingly daily [8] .

The order of the elements in the table [Comm 7] corresponds to the catalog number of the USSR stamps ( CFA ) [5] [6] [7] , the numbers in the Mikhel catalog [13] [15] are given in parentheses.

  1. ↑ Commemorative stamps - the generalized name of special art (commemorative, anniversary and other) postage stamps. To simplify the terminology in cases where it is only necessary to emphasize that this brand is not commonly used (that is, standard), the term “commemorative brand” means, in addition to the above, also thematic (drawings of which are dedicated to a certain collection topic) stamps. Also, all the mentioned stamps, united by the term “commemorative”, have a common feature: as a rule, such stamps are made at a high printing level [4] .
