The 1st Northern Division is the infantry division of the army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic , which was part of the Volyn group.

Formation
In May 1919, as a result of the Polish and Red Army offensive in Volyn , the Northern Group of the UPR Army was defeated. Its remnants, previously included in the Zaporizhzhya corps of the UNR army, were reorganized into the 1st Northern Rifle Division and included in the Volyn group of the UNR army.
Battle Path
She took part in the Civil War in Ukraine and the Soviet-Polish War .
The division participated in the armed struggle against the Red Army in the area of Kamenetz-Podolsky and Satan . During the joint campaign of the Polish army , the army of the UPR and the Ukrainian Galician army to Kiev as part of the Volyn group, the division participated in a general attack on Odessa .
September 1, 1919 inflicted heavy losses on the 45th division of the Red Army , which was part of the Southern Group of Forces of the 12th Army , defending Odessa, which allowed the Ukrainian troops to capture Birzula (now Podolsk (Odessa region) ).
In the fall of 1919, the division took part in battles with the White Guard troops .
On November 15-16, 1919, the division suffered heavy losses, the remnants of the 1st Northern and 4th Kholm divisions were reduced to the Volyn division.

The total strength of the division as of August 23 was more than 2700 people, of which about 1000 bayonets and sabers. It was armed with 56 machine guns and 14 guns.
