Jorge de Viteri y Ungo ( Spanish: Jorge de Viteri y Ungo ; April 23, 1801 , San Salvador , Captain-General of Guatemala - July 25, 1853 , Leon (Nicaragua ) - Central American Church figure, the first bishop of Leon of Nicaragua (04/20/1531 - May 1536 and 11/05/1849 - 07/25/1853), the first bishop of the diocese of San Salvador (01/27/1843 - 11/05/1849) (now the Archdiocese of San Salvador ). Statesman, Minister of the Interior and Justice of Guatemala ( January 18, 1849 - November 6, 1851 ).

Biography
The son of a wealthy Spaniard. Educated in Guatemala in recent years, Spanish rule.
He was a prominent figure in Central America after the collapse of the Central American Confederation in 1840.
An outstanding speaker and preacher, one of the main members of the Aisinen family, adviser to the President of Guatemala, General Rafael Carrera , the godfather of President Salvador , leader of the Conservatives Francisco Malespin .
Member of the Council of State of Guatemala since March 1840.
In 1842 he visited the Vatican , where the Holy See established the diocese of San Salvador by isolating it from the archdiocese of Guatemala .
In 1846, after the overthrow and flight of Francisco Malespin to Honduras, under the protection of the President of this country, Coronado Chávez Jorge de Viteri i Ungo, he lost support and was expelled from El Salvador by President Eugenio Aguilar .
He died in Leon , apparently as a result of poisoning. The remains of the bishop were transported to San Francisco ( California ), and then at the beginning of the twentieth century returned to the Main Cathedral of El Salvador.
