Tashji, Sedat

Sedat Tashji ( Turkish : Sedat Taşcı ; born July 8, 1985 ) is a Turkish boxer , representative of the light, semi-light and welterweight categories. He played for the Turkish boxing team in the first half of the 2000s, the winner and medalist of tournaments of international importance, a participant in the Athens Summer Olympics . In the period 2007-2015 he also boxed at a professional level, but without much success.

Biography

Sedat Tashji was born on July 8, 1985. He trained at the Fenerbahçe boxing club in Istanbul .

Amateur career

He achieved his first serious success in the international arena in the 2001 season, when he joined the Turkish national team and attended the Cadet European Championship in Liverpool, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the featherweight category - he was stopped by the Russian Zaurbek Baysangurov in the final final match . Later he spoke at the World Championship among cadets in Baku, where he also became a silver medalist - this time in the finals he lost to Azerbaijani Aslan Bayramov.

In 2002, at the cadet world championship in Kecskemét, he defeated all rivals in the tournament bracket, in particular in the finals he defeated Uzbek Elshod Rasulov . In addition, he won a silver medal at the international Strandja tournament in Plovdiv and performed at the European Championships in Perm , where he was already defeated by the representative of Georgia Konstantin Kupatadze at the preliminary stage.

At the European Junior Championship in 2003 in Warsaw he received bronze in lightweight. He won a bronze medal at the Ahmet Dzhemert home international tournament in Istanbul, won silver at the junior international tournament in Hungary.

In 2004, he was the best in the Turkish lightweight championship, adding silver medals to the track record at the Acropolis Cup in Athens and at the international tournament in Gothenburg. He boxed at the European Championships in Pula , losing in the 1/8 finals to German representative Vitaly Tibert . Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Athens Summer Olympics , but already in the opening duel of the category up to 57 kg with a score of 28:37 he was defeated by the Korean Cho Sok Hwan and immediately dropped out of the fight for medals.

After the Athens Olympics, Tashji for some time remained in the Turkish boxing team and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 2005, he was noted for his performance at the European Union Championship in Cagliari, where he lost to the Croatian boxer Philip Palic at the quarter-finals stage [1] .

Professional career

Having left the location of the Turkish national team, Sedat Tashji moved permanently to Australia and in November 2007 made his debut on a professional level.

In 2009, he won the champion of the state of New South Wales in the light weight category. He claimed the vacant Australian lightweight title, but lost the technical decision to another challenger Jason Crowe (5-2-1), having suffered the first defeat in his professional career.

Having won several rating fights, in 2015 he was awarded the right to challenge the title of champion of Oceania in the welterweight category according to the World Boxing Association (WBA), which at that time belonged to undefeated Australian Cameron Hammond (12-0). As a result, Hammond won by technical knockout in the fifth round and defended his champion belt, and Tashji ended his sports career. In total, he spent 14 fights in the pro ring, of which 8 won (including 3 ahead of schedule), 2 lost, while in four cases a draw was recorded.

Subsequently, he worked as a boxing trainer at the Hybrid Impact Training Fitness and Combat club in Australia [2] .
