History and Description

The Iserlohn Museum of Crafts was opened on July 31, 1999 in the half-timbered building of the former factory of the Maste family of entrepreneurs [1] (see the Maste-Barendorf Historical Factory ) located in the old town (Altstadt district) - at 5 Fritz Kün-Platz square, The opening of the new museum was the result of the work of more than three hundred people and organizations, united in the union Förderkreis Iserlohner Museen eV (FIM) - an organization created in 1979 to collect documents and exhibits from the past city. Today, the museum’s collection contains tools and products related to twenty craft professions related to the history of the city of Iserlohn and the Merkish region. The postal collection, located in the same building, is dedicated to the history of the region's postal service: in particular, the collection shows the role of postal services in the development of urban metalworking in the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum also talks about the personalities who played a significant role in the development of the German postal service, such as the General Director of the North German Union Post, Heinrich von Stefan .
