Villa Wessel

The Wessel family house - Wilhelm Wessel and Irmgart Wessel-Zumloch - was built in the vicinity of Gartenstrasse and Stennerstrasse in Iserlohn in 1891: the architect designed the building with a high terrace , crowned with a balustrade , and a staircase leading to the Ottoman portal in the Westphalian baroque style , the architect Leppin ( German Otto Leppin ) on behalf of the entrepreneur Otto Auer, who was a co-owner of Kissing & Möllmann. The villa was built next to the school building for girls, built in 1862 according to the plans of architect Max Hol.

Wilhelm Wessel / Irmgart Wessel-Zumloh e. V. ”was founded on September 9, 1990 during a meeting in the“ Village of Artists Barendorf ”(today - the Maste-Barendorf Historical Factory ): the mayor of the city Fritz Fischer and the city ​​manager Heiko Vetekam initiated the meeting. The task of society was the holding of art exhibitions: from classical modernism to works of post-war art. Thus, the authorities intended to assist in the development of the urban artistic environment and preserve the heritage of the Wessel family. Since then, Kunstferain exhibitions have been held in the halls on the ground floor of the villa. Since 1990, the works of Pablo Picasso , Otto Dix , the Blue Horseman association, Emil Schumacher and many others have been exhibited here. In 2003, the Iserlohner Kunstpreis Prize was also established in the amount of EUR 15,000–20000, giving it every two to three years: in 2007, the Japanese-Swiss artist Leiko Ikemura became its owner.
