History and Description
The Church of St. John in the Nusberg district was built by the architect of Iserlohn Ernst Dossman ( German: Ernst Dossmann , born 1926): it was founded on September 26, 1959, and the consecration took place on November 6, 1960. The main building of the temple is a cross-shaped reinforced concrete structure with brickwork; the sides do not have window openings. Gable roof The roof of the building has the highest point in the center of the nave and transept . Under the main hall of the building is a basement divided into several rooms; a staircase on the west side of the temple leads to a bell tower 40 meters high with a hipped roof ( German rhombischen Pyramidendach ). In the bell tower are three bronze bells , which were cast in the workshop “Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock "( Gesher ). The western pediment of the building is decorated with graffiti by Edith Prutz-Güth ( German: Edith Prutz-Güth , 1928-2008) from Schwerte : the painting contains symbolic images of John the Baptist and John the Evangelist . Solar panels are installed on the roof above the part of the nave.
The room of the church, characterized by a large choir and good acoustics [1] , seats 450 people and does not have rich decoration. To add warm shades to the interior, the church benches, the altar and the pulpit were made of mahogany ( sequoias ). The organ , designed by the master Paul Otto ( German: Paul Ott , 1903-1991), is located to the right of the main passage and has 1250 pipes: diameters from 10 millimeters to 2.70 meters. In 2017, the church was included in the list of architectural monuments of the city of Iserlohn .
